An LED display that works perfectly in a shopping mall will fail within months if you install it outdoors without proper engineering. The differences between indoor and outdoor LED go far beyond the cabinet itself.

Brightness

Indoor LED typically runs at 800–1,500 nits — plenty for controlled lighting. Outdoor LED needs ≥4,500 nits to compete with direct sunlight. Higher brightness requires more power, more heat dissipation, and better power supply design.

IP rating and weatherproofing

Outdoor cabinets are rated IP65 or higher — fully dust-tight and protected against water jets. Indoor displays are typically IP30 (no special protection). The cost difference in cabinet engineering is substantial.

Heat management

Outdoor panels must dissipate heat from direct sunlight plus their own power consumption. Most use aluminum heat-sink designs or active cooling. Indoor panels run much cooler.

Cabinet material

Outdoor cabinets are typically sheet metal with anti-corrosion coating or premium Foshan aluminum for lighter weight. Indoor cabinets can use lighter materials, often with front-service access.
