Peak vs average consumption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LED displays have two power ratings: peak (max brightness, full white content) and average (typical content, which is rarely full white). For planning, use these rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

• Average consumption is typically 30\u201340% of peak<\/li>
• For brightness\/calculation, use 60% of peak as a working number<\/li>
• For electrical service sizing, use 80% of peak (headroom for occasional bright content)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

  Real-world numbers per m\u00b2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  • Indoor fine-pitch (P1.5\u2013P2.5)<\/strong>: peak 600W\/m\u00b2, average 220W\/m\u00b2<\/li>
  • Indoor standard (P3\u2013P4)<\/strong>: peak 500W\/m\u00b2, average 180W\/m\u00b2<\/li>
  • Outdoor (P4\u2013P6)<\/strong>: peak 800W\/m\u00b2, average 320W\/m\u00b2<\/li>
  • Outdoor high-brightness (P8\u2013P10)<\/strong>: peak 600W\/m\u00b2, average 240W\/m\u00b2<\/li>

    A 5m \u00d7 3m outdoor LED wall = 15m\u00b2. At peak 800W\/m\u00b2 = 12kW peak. For electrical service, plan 9.6kW (80%). For UPS backup, plan for 4.8kW (40% \u2014 average load).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Operating cost<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    At an average of 250W\/m\u00b2 and typical commercial electricity rates, a 15m\u00b2 outdoor display running 12 hours per day costs about $0.85 per day in the US, or about $310 per year. Way less than a printed billboard that gets replaced monthly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
